Dove Ad Gets It RightWell you know I do have a tendency to pick on Stupid things companies do and boy, do I have another doozy coming up when I finish this post. Apple pulls another complete boner.

However today, I want to bring your attention to perhaps one of the best Ads I have ever seen. It covers a lot of ground that I address in my coaching business.  Believe it or not, most people are like this and this one thing holds them back from massive success.

Dove nails this Ad in so many ways it is not funny. I will parse this in a later post.

“Hacked PCs falsify billions of ad clicks”

This is from the Financial Times today.  Cool huh?

The botnets posted billions of clicks on ads.  Now doesn’t that make you feel better about your adword spend?

This is actually old news for those of us in the biz and has been going on for years.  Although we do run adwords campaigns and are very good at it, I always try and get our customers to put that money into ongoing SEO. This way you know that the clicks you are getting are more likely to be real.

Depending on how you do your spends, you can see 30% of your clicks being bots.
A first page listing on Google is worth 9x more than that same ad on that page, just because of the number and quality of clicks you are going to get.  Something to remember.

Measuring Success

It has been awhile since we have looked at the basics of marketing and measurements.  As Peter Drucker said, “What’s measured improves”  and so it goes.

It does not matter if you are measuring SEO/SEM, or direct sales, or how many visitors you have to your site,  the fact that you are measuring it can really help.

What we have in a lot of cases is an in-depth dashboard that allows you to see what is going on every single day in nearly every metric we have in our business.

Are you doing this?  Do you even know what is going on in your business as far as daily cash flow, visitors, customers, amount per sale, profit per visit?  How about your SEO results?  Or your advertising results?

If not, you really need to do this asap. I even if it is nothing more than an excel spreadsheet.  We will be examining some ways to build your own dashboard for your business so you can see exactly what is going on.

What is amazing is that you would not think of getting in your car and driving it if your dashboard was a complete blank and you did not know how much gas you had or how fast you were going or being able to tell what gear you were in…. But almost every business I know of does this with their business. They do not have a real time dashboard allowing them to know exactly what is going on in their business.

Apple Got It Fixed!  Yeaaaaa.

I am happy and I truly mean this, that the phone call to Apple got their Website Boo Boo fixed.  Someone is on the ball in their Media center.

Hopefully someone will do the same for you if this happens.  But, my point still remains the same. If you were a small company and you had a major new client doing due diligence and they saw that, you could easily lose them and $100,000 or $20,000 could go up in smoke like that.

I would have called them before, but I was surprised that I was the only one that noticed or why no on would help alert someone there to what was going on.

Would not want to be in the room Monday for that butt chewing.

So, the lesson here is watch your Website and do someone a favor and let them know if a page is messed up.  It is tough out there and you may just save the company that one contract that keeps them in business.  Besides it is good Karma.  Now let’s see if they follow it up with a thank you. Coke did not, but oh well even if they don’t, it is Ok.  But if someone does this for you, at least say thanks! 🙂
